My last hope was a local , A Plan car insurance. I phoned them up after a recommendation and spoke to a guy who really knew his stuff. All he requested was a simple letter from my old boss stating I had not made any claims and this would suffice. I told him about the online car insurance problems I had faced and he told me the car insurance websites are just not geared up for insurance premiums that can't be dealt with immediately after quoting. I am now insured for a little over £300 which is what I expected as a realistic rate for fully comprehensive cover.
In my experience the online car insurance companies / websites will usually refer you to the phone after discovering you have zero no claims bonus, then put you in a queue only for a commission-based operator to tell you at the end of a twenty minute 150 question session that you are not eligible for a reasonable quote with their company.
