Motorcycle Insurance
If you have never owned a motorcycle before then you may think that getting insurance for a new bike or one that you plan to buy in the very near future is just as simple as taking out car insurance is. To a certain extent, you are right. You can easily go online and get a range of motorcycle insurance quotes from specialists and mainstream providers in just a few minutes. However, the make and model of your bike has much more of an impact on the classification of your insurance than you might think.
We all know that the make and model of your car affects the level of your premiums and the same applies for motorcycle insurance. However, you might find that you face difficulties getting motorcycle insurance cover from some providers because of the nature of your bike. This is because there are six different types of bike and some are significantly more powerful than others. They also offer you much less protection than cars and are much more prone to damage in the event of an accident. As such, repairs may be significantly more expensive and it is likely that you may write off your bike if you do have an accident. As such, the insurer would have to pay out on a claim.
The six types of bike are as follows:
- Commuter – The smallest and cheapest of the bikes, such as the Honda CBF 250 and Yamaha FZ6.
- Sportsbikes – Quicker but relatively compact bikes like the Yamaha R6 and Honda CBR600.
- Supersports Bikes – Those we are used to seeing racing on the TV, including the Kawasaki ZX-10 and Suzuki GSRX1000.
- Adventure And Off Road Bikes – These bikes are suitable for all terrains and a little sturdier, like the KTM 950 Adventure S and the Yamaha WR450F.
- Touring Bikes – The BMW K1200GT and Kawasaki ZZR1200 are perfect examples of this type of bike.
- Cruisers – The largest of bikes and those that are often custom bikes too. This includes the Suzuki Intruder M1600 and the Honda VTX1300.
