The Hilux started with production by the Japanese manufacturer Toyota in March 1968 and has gone through various generations of improvements over the years with a series of style, technical and equipment upgrades that give us the current range of Toyota Hilux.
The Toyota Hilux is currently available in the following specifications:
• Hilux Double Cab 4 Door
Engines available in this model are the Diesel 2.5l manual, 3.0l manual or a 3.0l automatic.
• Hilux Extra Cab 2 door
2.5l manual diesel engine available.
• Hilux Single Cab 2 door
2.5l manual diesel engine available.
There are currently three grades of Toyota Hilux available and these are known as the 'HL2', 'HL3' and the 'Invincible'.
• The HL2 model is the most affordable of the Hilux range and is available as a single, double or extra cab. Standard equipment available on the HL2 are features such as drivers / passenger airbags, air conditioning, alarm system and a CD player with MP3 compatibility.
• The HL3 model is exclusively available in the double cab. This Hilux comes with a better range of standard features such as a rear chrome step, front fog lights, leather steering wheel / gearstick and a Thatcham Category 1 alarm system.
• The Invincible is available in a double cab and is deemed the Hilux flagship model as it offers space, luxury and style. The Invincible offers some handsome features as standard and is available as a 5 speed manual or automatic.
The Toyota Hilux gained a reputation for exceptional sturdiness and reliability and was made famous on the BBC programme 'Top Gear'. A 1988 Hilux with 190,000 miles on the clock was subjected to extraordinary abuse such as being washed out to sea, dropping a caravan on it and being hit with a wrecking ball and yet it was still repairable with usual tools found in a standard toolbox.
