I wrote a blog a few days ago on the amount of car insurance claims going up as a direct result of the snow and the 23% more accidents it has caused. However, it appears that car insurance firms are not the only ones suffering as a result of the cold snap. Instead, it has been reported that home insurance companies are facing more claims at the moment thanks to the cold weather. Pipes are bursting because they are frozen, roofing is cracking and falling off, and outhouses, sheds and greenhouses are suffering damage as a result of the ice and weight of the snow.
Some homeowners will find that their home insurance policies do not cover them for such damage, but those that have cover and claim on it will find that their premiums go up exponentially as a result. If you can afford to cover minor damage then do because insurers will undoubtedly leap at the chance to charge you more.

It has been announced today that the government are launching a consultation on insurance products in a bid to make them simpler to understand. I don’t know about you but it is way overdue. Cheap car insurance companies have been making money for years off the back of people finding their products difficult to understand. Of course, aggregate sites, or comparison sites as they are more commonly known, have made policies a little easier to understand because individual drivers can compare the features. Asked honestly though, most would not understand the small print.
So what exactly will this consultaion do, if anything? Well, it will initially investigate the insurance industry as a whole before making recommendations on how to make cheap car insurance more transparent. The government are likely to call for further regulation to protect consumers so life may get a little easier as far as choosing car insurance is concerned in the coming months.

Having your car breakdown when you are miles from home is daunting enough but if it happens in adverse weather conditions when you are stuck in the middle of nowhere then it is even worse… especially if you are female and feel vulnerable. This is why many womens car insurance policies started incorporating free breakdown cover, which you could upgrade if you felt the need to. However, in a bid to save money, some womens only car insurance companies have begun to drop it from their list of features as standard.
So what does this mean? Well, in many cases, you can still opt to have breakdown insurance as an extra but that means that you can be charged more for it. As such, if you already have breakdown cover on your womens car insurance check your policy when renewal time rolls around because you may find the terms and conditions have changed.

Did you know that car insurance claims have risen by 23% since the start of the bad weather a fortnight ago? A study of a leading insurer has revealed that, although people are taking it easy on the roads, many people are skidding and sliding around on the ice and into other cars as well as into parked cars and stationary objects. One person even reported an accident after swerving to miss a wild boar. As such, the season of the weird and wonderful is here.
Of all of the claims put in though more are being placed on performance car insurance than any other type of insurance. This is largely because performance cars are not only more powerful and tend to offer a less sensible drive in conditions like these but also because any modifications can make them more difficult to drive. Any modification can throw the centre of gravity off so be careful if you have a performance car, even moreso than you would be with any other car.

Yet more news stories appeared on the evening and nightly news today about travelling in the snow and ice, some of which reported that motorists were effectvely having to spend the night in their cars because they were stuck on various roads up and down the country. Whether you have cheap car insurance or womens car insurance is neither here nor there in this particular situation… and if you are in your warm home reading this then you are undoubtedly lucky tonight but that is not to say that getting stuck will not happen to you. As such, you have to be prepared.
Being prepared means having supplies like water, blankets, first aid kit and maybe even some snacks in your car at all times throughout this winter. You should make sure that your mobile phone is charged every time you head out the door. Finally, you should also ensure that you have at least three times the petrol you need for every journey in the car. These three points will really give you peace of mind if nothing else.

I have to say that I have felt incredibly sorry for van drivers this week. Whether you have your own business and have to go out in all weathers or drive a van for work purposes and have had to keep your appointments, the weather has been far from ideal this week. In fact, there have been a few vans in ditches around here, which has not been good for van insurance premiums as a result. However, a word of warning to all van drivers that insure their own vehicles – you should check your policies.
There have been reports of van insurance providers refusing to pay out this week because drivers have been perceived to be taking unecessary risks on the road. In short, actually going out on the road could be considered an unecessary risk in adverse weather conditions. Just have a read of the small print so you know what to expect should you face any problems.

The whole of the UK is now pretty well aware that winter is here. The snow has been bringing various areas to a standstill over the last week or so and you would be forgiven for thinking that it is getting beyond a joke now. After all, it is twice in a year that snow has prevented people getting to work, backed up various services and generally effectively helped to make people suffer… especially drivers. Although the government, a different one this time, continues to do nothing, cheap car insurance companies certainly are.
Millions of drivers have found that their cheap car insurance quotes have gone up when renewal time comes around and the reason given is the increased number of claims due to the snow in February. As such, expect the same excuse to be made again in the future. If you have not done so in the past then now is the time to start comparing your policy to make sure that you get the best deal.
