Van Insurance & Smoking

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Van insurance premiums have gone up for those renewing their policies in the last few months as a result of inflation and a general increase in the cost of living so most van drivers will end up paying more, unless there are circumstances under which they can apply discounts that were not applicable before like points coming off a license. However, if you are not aware of various laws then you may find that your van insurance premiums are going up even more.

Smoking is a prime example.

According to recent data, more than 7 million drivers are not aware of the fact that smoking in work vans is illegal. Whether you own your van or not, if it is used for work purposes then you cannot smoke in it. If you do get caught then you will automatically get fined, may have points applied to your license and will also find that your insurance is higher because you do have to declare such incidents.

Just remember, work van = no smoking to keep your premiums low!

Cheap Car Insurance & Insurer Claim Stats

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

I’ve covered a lot of news stories on this blog recently and have another one for you that might be of interest at the moment. It is an old story but one that I have yet to cover on here. Actually, it was the volcanic ash situation that got me thinking about it. The recent story was that few insurers were paying out because the volcano was an act of God and I remembered an old one that dealt with cheap car insurance payouts.

Rumour had it that some insurers had lower payout rates than others. This was not because of fraulent claims, although there are quite a few of those out there right now, but rather because of clauses in the small print that reduce the number of instances in which claims can be made. As such, it is definitely worth checking out the reputations of individual providers before you take out a policy. Remember, dissatisfied customers are always more willing to voice their frustration so if there is any dirt out there then you can find it.

Young Drivers Insurance & Potholes

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Yes, we keep coming back to that topic again and again – potholes! Normally this issue is over and done with by this time of the year but not this year thanks to the awful weather and poor council repair rate. However, this is not good for those with young drivers insurance because any claim as a result of pothole damage could cause your young drivers car insurance premiums to go up exponentially.

Recent figures put claims for pothole damage at £2.85 million per month, but this could be lower than it would be if everyon who knew they had accidental damage cover on their comprehensive insurance policies. However, it is sometimes worth thinking twice before claiming, especially if you can afford the damage to your car. Excesses usually apply and then you have to calculate the long term costs as well. As such, you should weigh up the pros and cons before choosing how to go about sorting out the pothole damage.

Cheap Car Insurance & Your Wheels

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

According the the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM), one in every ten cars has at least one illegal tyre in terms of the tread depth. Bald tyres were rarely a feature of those cars on the road a few decades ago but they seem to be a staple today because people are struggling to avoid maintenance costs. However, this could damage your ability to get a hold of cheap car insurance in no time at all.

Another car insurance provider found that almost 50% of all motorists had cut corners on maintenance since the start of the recession to the point at which the roads prove to be a major danger for all drivers on the road thus jeopardising cheap car insurance and this has also caused a greater number of MOT failures. This just proves that the costs associated with cutting corners is much higher than we often think. Human life is not worth it.

Womens Car Insurance & Your Babies

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

Womens car insurance is well known for the massive array of extras that are added to individual policies in order to ensure that they appeal to women. It covers handbags, care lines that are opened 24 hours a day and even baby seats, but did you know that womens car insurance also covers babies? Believe it or not, some policies in Australia and the United States actually cover baby health care following an accident and there are hints that UK companies may well follow suit.

Womens car insurance companies have led the way in researching the effects that accidents have on both pregnant women and young babies. As such, they have also discovered that women feel more confident in their insurer if they are willing to give them peace of mind in this respect. As such, all women drivers with specialist policies should check out what they are covered for and see what else is on offer!

Young Drivers Car Insurance & Claims

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

Did you know that European young drivers are far more likely to claim than British young drivers? Apparently a recent study has delved into the insurance claims made on young drivers insurance in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. It found that young drivers car insurance policies on the continent were more likely to receive a claim that those here but were also likely to remain low in the coming years. How does that work, I hear you ask?

Well, although young drivers are more likely to make a claim, the way in which insurance premiums are calculated on the continent vary slightly. They focus on the ability of the individual driver rather than considering the blanket age and gender. UK insurers do tend to class all young drivers as the same and that puts up premiums but now, with no claims bonuses available, young drivers are beginning to get access to value so make the most of it!
