Cheap Car Insurance & Theft Hotspots

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Recent car insurance figures have revealed the worst car theft hotspots in the UK. The research carried out put several surprises in the list of the worst places to keep your car but ones that you should pay attention to nevertheless because it could affect your ability to get hold of cheap car insurance. For example, drivers that live in Chislehurst, Kent, or Wingate, Cleveland are  actually unlikely to get cheap car insurance because they are three times more likely than the average motorist to experience the theft of their vehicle. Obviously other hotspots include all of the big cities.  Manchester, Sheffield and Bradford featured most prominantly in the list. As such, you may be forgiven that it is worse to live up north when it comes to car theft. This is not necessarily the case though because Romford and Ilford, both in Essex, also hit the top of the list.

Taxi Insurance & Drinking On The Job

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Now I know how the title of this article may appear but it really isn’t as it seems! Taxi drivers don’t drink alcohol on the job because it’s more than their livlihood is worth but what about tea, coffee, water or any other drink you may have without alcoholic content? As your taxi is effectiovely your office you’re entitled to a drink, right? Not when you’re on the road you’re not!

The government will soon be bringing in measure by which you automatically get points on your license if you are caught so much as sipping your morning coffee on the road. This could spell serious trouble for your taxi insurance because it could drive it up as much as a speeding offense would. As such, it will be necessary to pull over to take a swig of water in the coming years. Keep your eye out for news of this change. It may not enter law but if it does then you should be prepared for it.

Home Insurance & Businesses

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Do you run a business from home? If you do then you may ned to look twice at your home insurance policy because there is a little clause in most policies that it seems more than half of all people working from home forget about. That clause stipulates that, should you home get broken into or be decimated by a fire, only your personal belongings are covered under a contents policy. Tat could spell severe difficulty for the future of your business.

If you work from home then the likelihood is that you have equipment that is used for business purposes. It may only be a computer or it could be expensive specialist equipment. Either way it will not be covered. Similarly, if you have clients or employers visit you at home then you are not covered for legal liabilities either. As such, you could be left severely out of pocket. The answer? Check out your policy and get the right one in place now!

Young Drivers Car Insurance & The Garage

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

This is a tip for those young drivers that live at home with their parents today. I read an article giving tips over how to lower car insurance for young drivers today and one of them struck me as something that many people would not necessarily think of – making sure that the car is garaged overnight. This my not go down too well with the parents but it is a valid tip, especially if you want to keep your young drivers car insurance premiums down!

Putting a car in a garage overnight can dramatically reduce the risk of theft and given how high young drivers car insurance premiums are this is a bonus. Although your parents may arage their cars overnight, it is worth asking if you can take up the space instead given that you have a lot more to gain from this than they do!

Home Insurance & Pest Cover

Friday, November 13th, 2009

There has been much in the news of late about insurance providers trying to attract new customers. With so many insurers in the marketplace, it is necessary for them to try to out do each other in terms of what they are offering for your money. With so many extras it would be easy to get lost but there is one brand new extra that is to be found within some of the newer policies – home insurance pest cover.

Pest cover may be an essential part of home insurance in the years to come because of climate change and global warming. The numbers of pests around are growing and so the likelihood is that they will affect more and more homes in the coming years. As such, if it is an extra, especially a free one, on your policy then make sure that you take your insurer up on their offer sooner rather than later.

Performance Car Insurance & Continental Convictions!

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Christmas is well and truly on its ways so you’re probably planning the shopping list for food, booze and presents. Some nip across to France to pick up the alcohol for the hilday but if you are going to this year and you have a performance car insurance policy bear in mind that the trip may cost you more than you thought. From now on, motoring offences like speeding can follow you all the way back home.

There is a brand new European treaty in force that now allows and promotes the sharing of data in European member countries. As such, if you speed in France then there is absolutely nothing to stop the offence following you because governments can now chase and your home country is obliged to comply.  Given the fact that most people do not know the roads abroad and speed camera numbers are rising (1400 in France alone) with the new camera types that I discussed early this month, you might be expecting problems with the cost of your performance car insurance in the future!

Motorbike Insurance News & The Future Of Training

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Good news for all motorbike insurance policy holders – your premiums may well be coming down in the years to come because the training bodies have now merged and will provide better training and licensing procedures in the years to come! The Motorcycle Industry Trainers Association is the brand new body and incorporates the Motor Cycle Industry Trainers Association and the Motorcycle Rider Training Association. In effect, this will change the way in which motorbike training and licensing is administered.

Henceforth known as the Third Driving Licence Directive, license fraud will be clamped down on and paper licenses would no longer be valid. As such, all riders will have to get photo licenses and they will indeed be renewable every decade. You would have to undergo a medical to get it back. This is designed to enhance safety and ensure that the roads remain safe. It will lower your motorbike insurance though!

Cheap Car Insurance & Your License

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Today I have a funny story for you:

A 22 year old soldier recently got pulled over by the police for a spot check and did not have his documents on him. Upon presenting them to a local police station the next day, the wannabe police officer made a slight mistake… on his fraudulent car insurance policy. Instead of doing the sensible thing and actually taking out insurance, the man had produced a policy document to try to evade arrest and conviction of a motoring offence that would put an end to his career aspirations. The policy end date was marked down as 31/02/08 at 23.59hrs.

Can you spot the mistake? Want a clue? 30 days hath Spetember… Yep, February only has 28 days, 29 in a leap year!

The man has not been jailed but has been banned from driving. However, when he gets his license back, cheap car insurance will not be an option!
