In a couple of days we will be in December and the party season will begin in earnest. As a result, people should begin to think about the parties they will attend and how to get home afterwards… and also what will happen to their insurance premiums should they be pulled over and fail a breathalyser test. However, those with motorbike insurance do not have to worry about premiums going up as a direct result of drink driving because they are far less likely to do so, according to a recent survey by the Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCI).
The survey concluded that 1.4% of all bikers breathalyse after an accident in 2008 were found to be over the limit, whereas all road users averaged out at 2.7%. As such, it could be argued that those with motorbike insurance are more responsible than others. Perhaps they just love their bikes more, but either way they are more sensible and safer!

The fact us that most van drivers, or car drivers at large, have no clue as to what they are covered for from one year to the next. This should come as no surprise, because how often does anyone have time to read their insurance policy, let alone understand all the jargon in there? However, if you have van insurance then the likelihood is that your business is entwined with your policy and so you absolutely should take the time to find out what is in your policy to begin with.
Most van insurance policies offer a number of extras within them to look after you and your interests should you ever need a little help. For example, most van insurance policies contain a courtesy or hire van provision to make sure that you can stay on the road in the event of an accident. It will also contain windscreen repairs. In addition, most policies now incorporate European cover should you need to go abroad to work and breakdown cover should you find yourself stranded. Make sure that you know what you are covered for just in case.

A recent survey performed in Ireland revealed some surprising results… well at least they will appear surprising to all the men out there. It concluded that women are far less likely to lie on their applications for womens car insurance, or any other form of insurance for that matter, than men are. Apparently, this is yet another reason why womens car insurance is calculated as cheaper than the quotes offered to men.
We all knew that women are less likely to have an accident and thus less likely to make a claim but it is surprising that some people blatantly lie on their insurance applications. If you do get caught in a lie when applying for insurance then this is technically fraud and will void your policy if you should put in a claim. As such, the amount of money that you could save via lying is nothing compared to what it may cost you.

A recent study has revealed that home thefts have increased in number dramatically since the start of the credit crunch in 2008. This was to be expected given that crime always goes up when hardship hits and burglaries seem an ideal way for criminals to boost their income. However, the number of home insurance claims that have been turned down have also risen for a number of reasons and you can learn from them.
For example, anything that has been left unsecured outside cannot be claimed for because you have not taken all the necessary precautions to prevent theft. However, if a bike has been secured in a locked shed then your policy may cover it. Furthermore, if you do not have the door and window locks that you have said you did on your application then you will not be able to claim because you have given false information. Always tell the truth, even if it costs you more!

Nobody panic! There has not been a curfew established for young drivers in any way, shape or form! The police are not going to arrest you if you are out driving at 8pm or whatever… but you may want to think about a self imposed curfew if you are looking to save money on your young drivers car insurance.
Believe it or not, one company has introduced a curfew on young drivers car insurance. It is the only company that has done so as yet but it dramatically reduces the premiums that a driver under the age of 26 is expected to pay. In fact, it can save up to 40% off the premiums, which coul translate as hundreds of pounds. The idea is that you stay off the road between 11pm and 5am to take full advantage of the lower insurance premiums! If you need to drive during those hours then this may not be for you, but it is worth looking into.

If you are one of those people considering starting a taxi company as a result of losing your job in the recession then there are certain key elements of information that you should know ahead of time. The first is how expensive setting up can be. Not only do you have to fork out for the license and the car itself but then you have to considert road tax, taxi insurance and all of those other extra costs that can make starting a new business very expensive.
Taxi insurance may well be more expensive than you think. This is largely because you will have no no claims discount, no matter how good your driving record. Only that earned from taxi insurance policies counts, although you may find discounts available to you if your record is prviously good. Few companies offer this discount but it is worth looking into.

Motorbike insurance is a little more complex when it comes to security than car insurance, and with good reason. Lifting a car into a van would be a little more difficult to accomplish than lifting a motobike into one instead! OK, slight understatement there but you get the picture. Having said that, it is not always possible to put your bike in a garage ovenight and so you may have to look for other ways to secure your bike to lower your motorbike insurance quotes.
There are various ways in which you can secure your motorbike overnight. The first is obviously leaving it somewhere that would make it difficult for thieves to steal, such as in a back garden behind a locked gate. You can also use locks , chains and electronic security measures However, these are best used in conjunction with an anchor of some sort to ensure that your bike stays put for good!

Home insurance is one of those financial products that millions of people in the UK may well need in the next few days. The high winds that we have been having recently do absolutely nothing for the outer structures of our homes because they are only built to withstand so much, particularly the roofing. As such, do not be surprised to find that you have lost one or two tiles in the coming days.
If your roof has been damaged in the high winds then be sure to check your home insurance policy sooner rather than later. Most policies do cover roof damage caused by the wind. However, few policies cover any subsequent damage that may be caused by water leaking in a roof that has not been repaired as soon as possible after the damage occurred. It is a decision that needs to be taken now so be sure to look after your roof.

Everyone in the UK has seen images of the flooding i the north of England in recent days, unless they have had their head in the clouds! It has been pretty frightening to think what these storms can actually do and how much damage they can cause. With cars floating off down the roads and no way of stopping them, there will undoubtedly be a few claims on cheap car insurance policies in the coming weeks.
Most car insurance policies will cover cars for any damage caused in the floods but you need to be aware of the fact that claiming will put your car insurance premiums up in the future and may ruin your chances of getting cheap car insurance again. Furthermore, some of the newer policies will not cover you at all so make sure that you read the small print. Finally, if you have yet to do so then make sure hat you potect your no claims bonus at the arliest opportunity to ensure that the floods do not ruin your premiums for good.

Van insurance policies are a little more complex than car insurance policies, especially when it comes to insurance for vans usedfor commercial purposes. You will find that they are very specific in relation to the load that a van is carrying at any given time. As any van driver will know, all vans have a very specific weight limit and are allowed to carry no more because it can upset the balance of the vehicle, put too much pressure on the frame and cause a major accident.
The reason why I am remarking on this is the sheer number of vans I have seen in the last week or so with loads that are way too heavy. I counted three on Friday alone on my way to and from the office. However, had these drivers caused an accident then not only would they have been prosecuted but their van insurance would have been invalid so they would have had to pay for any damage caused. Motto – check your load before heading out onto the road.
