My Quest for finding Cheaper Car Insurance

Here's my car insurance story.

I am Jill, a middle aged female looking to beat last years car insurance quote on my little Ford Ka. i have 5 years no claims bonus, no accidents or convictions in the last 5 years, am a uk resident and require no named drivers on my policy and will authorise a £250 Excess.

After entering my details at confused.com I was bombarded with a list of quotes for my motor vhecle for the coming year. I found the form a little tedious but it was still quicker than actually going to each car insurance provider and tapping in my details over and over again (just as the advert said).

I then decided to print out my list and manually enter my details to the list of car insurance companies websites in order to seek out for myself the answer as to wether Confused.com or Money Supermarket were actually getting me the right insurance policy values.

Swiftcover.com quoted me £124.87 which was Confused.com's lowest car insurance quote. Five minutes later after filling in my insurance details at swiftcover.com i received an insurance quote of £124.57. Oh well I thought, a 30 pence saving! But then I noticed the Voluntary Excess was wrong so I changed it to what it was at Confused.com. This brought it down again to £121.92.

Just by checking this 1st quote from Confused.com I realised that if I were 35 years younger trying to insure let's say a performance or modified car, that this saving could actually be more like £100 just by doing manual car insurance comparisons myself.

Then I found more details I didn't expect to see. On confused.coms site they told me that legal cover if I took out a swiftcover.com car insurance policy would cost an extra £17.50. Fine I thought at the time. Now actually on the swiftcover.com website I am being told that it's £19.99. Who is right?

Don't read me wrong, I think confused.com and companies like them are a fantastic time saver when searching for cheap car insurance but from now on, I'm just going to use them as a tool, shop around and enter my details 20 times if I have to in order to get the right information and the cheapest quote available.

If you need to save time then confused.com is for you but if you have any motoring convictions, or accidents in the last 5 years or you have a performance or modified car then I would certainly spend a night in and prepare to enter your details 20 times to get to the real truth.
