Cheapest Cars to Insure : Young Drivers Car Insurance

Have you ever considered which cars in the UK are cheapest to insure for first time insurers or for young driveres who have recently passed their test?

Or even if you have passed your test but have zero no claims bonus, it must have crossed your mind which car to buy in order to keep your car insurance premiums as low as possible!

Powerseeker have a top 10 list of the cheapest cars to insure which could save you loads of money when taking out your first car insurance policy.

We will admit the cars aren't too hot but if you can handle owning one of these for a year or two just to get yourself a healthy no claims bonus or discount then it will be worth it to your pocket in the interim.

We know what it's like when you've just passed your test you want to show off your new motor no matter what the cost, however these days with the price of insurance and fuel and with the 2008 credit crunch this could help you save money for the car of your dreams in a few years time.

The all great VW Beetle - Lads £932, Ladies £714

You will notice that all the cars listed here are a great deal cheaper to insure should you be lucky enough to be the female of the species. This car is no different.

These cars are now difficult to get hold of in good condition as they tend to rust easily like most old cars. Should you find a good one though and treat it well, it should devalue one bit in fact you could make money.

You will find that the shoulder room is sparse, the interior is like Welsh Mountains (very bare) and its top speed or 0-60 time isn't even worth mentioning.

However this is a seriously cool looking car and will give you great pleasure under the bonnet as they frequently need attention.

The classic Vauxhall Corsa - Lads £1320, Ladies £1052

£1320 a year is not exactly cheap! My first car was an Escort Mk1 and back in 1987 it cost £240 to cover - don't things change!

It can't be pleseant facing such premiums as this and it makes you appreciate how lucky you actually are financially when you hit 30 (in this instance anyway!)

Sadly the cost of your insurance for the Corsa will probably cost more than the car itself due to the fact there are so many of these around. Certainly its newer than the VW Beetle and probably a little faster but I wouldn't want to crash test either of the top 2 motors!.

Try to buy one from a pensioner rather than another person a similar age to yourself otherwise you may find it's been thrashed and possibly modified which will void any insurance you may have if undeclared wether you knew about the modifications or not..

Peugeot 106 - Male £1320, Female £1055

These car insurance premiums actively reflect just how good this car is to drive. Although it may not be the most spacious on the market, it is one of the more interesting models to drive. In fact, it provides an exciting and intense driving experience as a result of the controlled and beautiful handling.

The small engine of the Peugeot 106 is outweighed as a negative by the positives of the crisp steering, low overall weigh and smooth gearshift. It will also be relatively cheap on fuel as its consumption is lower than similar cars out there. Overall, driving a 106 is definitely an experience that you should fall over yourself to get.

Fiat Panda - Male £1323, Female £1058

Depending on whether this car insurance quote is for a new or old Panda, you may want to grab it with both hands or run as fast as you can in the opposite direction. The old Panda is not worth the hassle but the new Panda is an absolute gem to drive initially.

The Fiat Panda’s new model will probably not be as reliable as some of the others in the same category, especially given that it will most likely break down before they do. Although they seem to be popular in Europe and the car insurance quotes do seem to offer value for money, the British roads are a completely different proposition and will probably wear this car out within the space of a few years. You may like to choose one of the other available small cars instead.

Austin Mini - Male £1325, Female £1058

The Austin Mini has been an iconic car for Britain for some time now and this image just keeps on going. There are still plenty of them around, although some of the older ones are falling apart at the seams today. They are hardly spacious but yet they seem to give you a different driving experience than any other car available today.

In terms of their mechanics, the Mini is pretty resilient, even if rust does tend to take hold in their later years. The parts are easy to get a hold of if you do need any and many mechanics will jump at the chance to work on them so they should never cost you too much. Watch out for the obsession though. Once that takes hold, it is hard to release yourself from the Mini’s grip!

Fiat Uno - Male £1330, Female £1058

Fiat Uno cars were a staple of the 1980s. In fact, so much so that it won the 1984 Car of the Year award. Although nowhere near as popular as they were then and pretty scarce today, they are still affordable and fairly spacious. Even better, their smoothness on the road is incredible given their age.

Although the 1.0 engine leaves a lot to be desired and the chance of rust being high these days, the drive is full of character and light. On top of that, the fuel consumption is certainly manageable. This car is definitely worth a look!

Citroen AX - Male £1334, Female £1060

The Citroen AX is one of the lesser known cars but one of the best given that it was designed in the same vein as the Peugeot 106. As such, it is incredibly light and can give you one of the best experiences on the road of all of the cars here.

This hatchback has a quirky interior that will delight you, complete with massive bottle holders in the doors, and handles really well. However, if you do happen to get in an accident in one of these then the likelihood is it will concertina in no time. Although the engine is a 1.0, the lightness of the car more than makes up for it.

Peugeot 205 - Male £1334, Female £1060

The Peugeot 205 is somewhat more substantial than the other cars listed here. Although the car insurance quotes are exactly the same as some of the other models, its previous GTI status have ensured that it is certainly sturdier, even if it does not have the same sort of power as it had back in the day.

Even minus the GTI power, the ride is still smooth, the handling crisp and will remind you of what the car used to be able to do. The steering is precise, the bodywork and mechanics tough and the shape is still a dream. What more could you want from a Peugeot 205?

Renault 5 - Male £1336, Female £1060

These are literally as rare as gold dust. If you can find one then you will either be in France or incredibly lucky. In the British climate these will rust quicker than you can say grease and that will undoubtedly have rendered the car not roadworthy, if it is still standing at all that is.

Although the outer bodywork may still be just as beautiful as it was then, the likelihood is that the interior will be ravaged by time and the mechanics will be shot. They are incredibly fun to drive with good handling and a light presence on the road though so if you do find one in good condition hold onto it.

Vauxhall Agila - Male £1336, Female £1060

Of all of the cars mentioned above, the Vauxhall Agila is the newest, if the ugliest. The body is incredibly boxy and not exactly good looking, but it will certainly protect you much better than anything else on the road. If you crash then the tree will probably be dented rather than the car!

You can tell it is newer as a result of the inclusion of an airbag on the driver’s side and the concerted effort Vauxhall made to make the interior spacious. With central locking and other modern features, you get reliability and usability as well as comfort. What more could you ask for?
