Car Insurance: Results In Google

In Google, why are some car insurance companies on the left and some on the right?

If you go to www.google.co.uk and type into the search box the term: cheap car insurance (now press search)

Many millions of results will now appear. All the results you see that are displayed on the left hand side are the car insurance companies that Google consider to be the most popular. Google does not explain how it works out the equation to arrive at this conclusion which keeps these thousands of car insurance websites guessing as to how to climb the rankings. You could safely say, that if you are on the front page of Google (and have a listing on the left), that the website is considered important and very relative to the search term entered.

Now, the car insurance results listed on the right side of the page (and sometimes at the very top usually highlighted with a slightly different background colour) are websites / companies that pay Google to appear in their listings. Any company that has a large budget can appear very high in these right hand listings so are not there by reputation, just by the advertising budget they have thrown at Google.

Either result whether it be on the left OR the right hand side of the page, the companies are constantly striving to compete against each other to appear higher and higher in the search engine results pages (SERPS) the higher you are in the list, the more people are likely to click on your website and take out a car insurance policy.

If you are thinking of starting a car insurance website, be prepared for a long haul to get anywhere near the top of the SERPS!
